Logan’s Journey into Game Development and Design

Today, Logan isn’t just a freshman exploring technology. He’s a creator, a problem-solver, and a student building toward a future he can see.

When Logan, a freshman at New Hanover High School in New Hanover County, first stepped into SparkNC, he didn’t see himself as a designer or developer.
In fact, he describes his early experience simply: limited design experience and uncertainty about what to expect. But that quickly changed.
Logan found out that SparkNC wasn't a traditional class, and for him that made all the difference. After joining the Sparklab, Logan began diving into game development and design through SparkNC units.
What started as curiosity quickly turned into creation. He didn’t just learn about games—he started building one.
Logan is now developing his own video game, designing characters and creating assets across platforms. He’s already built a fully functional level where
players collect coins to complete objectives—a milestone that reflects both technical growth andcreative confidence.

“I’ve learned how to code, create pixel art, and bring it all together,” Logan shared.
Through SparkNC, Logan has gained more than just technical skills—he’s discovered a pathway. By diving into game development and design, he’s building the background knowledge and confidence to begin working on his own passion projects—something that once felt out of reach.
What used to seem like just an interest has become something real: a future he plans to pursue in college and beyond in game development and design.

SparkNC has helped Logan connect what he’s learning to the real world—giving him context, relevance, and a sense of ownership over his work. He represents what SparkNC is all about: student-led, student- driven learning where curiosity turns into capability.
