Nate Myers

Learning Experience Designer

Nate joins SparkNC with a vision to change the way students learn through design thinking and inquiry-based, discovery-driven experiences.  As a person who grew up in rural eastern South Carolina and the son of educators, Nate's core values center around providing equity, STEM opportunities, and empowerment to groups and communities that are often marginalized and left behind. Nate comes to SparkNC with a wealth of experiences both in the classroom as a teacher and as a learning and curriculum designer.  He has taught STEM and computer science in various locations in both Wake County and Durham County for the past decade, including his previous stop as the STEM Department Chair at Saint Mary's School where he worked to build a makerspace program and was an instructor of STEM.

Nate launched his own education consulting startup called the M Project with a focus on providing STEM curriculum and experiences targeted to communities and organizations in underrepresented areas.  His previous work has included designing curriculum and facilitation for Code.org,  running a music production program at the Boys and Girls Club, curriculum design for Epic Games, SparkNC, Wayne County Public Library, University of Hawaii Maui College, and NC School of Science and Math.

In his spare time, Nate loves playing golf, piano, and bass.  He enjoys reading, spending time with his wife and daughter, traveling, tinkering with stem tools and gadgets, and all things Star Wars.

Nate received his B.S. degree from NC State University in Science, Technology, and Society with a minor in Arts Entrepreneurship and is currently working on a Masters Program in Learning Design & Technology at NCSU.
